The Adventure

The adventure begins as we push off the beach in our McKenzie driftboats, designed for handling the river with safety and comfort. Immediately you will see the incredible potential of the Deschutes. But hold onto your flies... you can't cast from the boat. State fishing regulations allow for wade fishing only. Our boat is transportation down the river and a wonderful way to take in the incredible scenery of the Deschutes River canyon.

Your first cast will be the beginning of a lifelong love for the Deschutes. The finned jewels of the Deschutes canyon, including the rainbow trout that may eat your elk hair caddis and the steelhead that boils on your green butt skunk, are very special. There are many rivers that hold big trout but few that hold trout with the fight of a Deschutes Redside. Nothing is more exhilarating than hooking a steelhead on a dry fly. The Deschutes is one of few rivers that offers consistent dry fly fishing for steelhead.

The Camp & Dining

Hungry? Let's eat!Being on the water 150 days a year can have its shortcomings. The luxuries of home can be sorely missed when the wind is howling and dinner is cold. Not with our Gourmet Flyfishing Adventures!  We bring the luxuries of home to the river, i.e., hot showers, wall tents and a fully equipped kitchen. Our services keep even the most softhearted campers content.

Great fishing begins with a good nights sleep. Your home on the river begins with your living quarters; everyone sleeps on cots in expansive three-person wall tents. Additional mats are provided during the spring and fall for added comfort and insulation.

Quality food is a high priority. The kitchen has everything but a microwave. We are proud of our daily specials and are always looking for new culinary delights to serve. If you have something special you would like served or require a special diet, let us know.

Instruction

Flyfishing instruction is our specialty and passion. You will leave the Deschutes River with not only fishing memories, but newfound confidence in your skills with a flyrod. We have the knowledge and patience to build confidence in fisherman of all abilities. From casting the Spey rod to advanced slack line nymphing, we share it all. Learn techniques and strategies that produce not only on the Deschutes, but on your home waters as well.

The Fishing Day

Open your eyes in the morning with sensory overload. The music of the Deschutes and the aroma of fresh hot coffee carry through the light morning breeze. Another day in paradise. The river is just outside your front door. If you wake up early with the birds, there is time for a morning fish before breakfast. You may be a little slower after breakfast, but the desire to stand in the river and cast to incredible Deschutes Redsides is too great. You continue to fish as camp is taken down and loaded into the gear boat. Once the gear boat is floating , your adventure down river begins again. We fish a variety of spots throughout the morning, including classic riffles, banks and eddies.

Perhaps after lunch, an afternoon nap? Caddis season is prolific but the mid to late afternoon hours are the trout's resting time. As the sun changes its angle and the shadows begin to cloak the water, it is time to fish again. The shade makes the trout much more willing to take a fly. This is a time of magic on the Deschutes, when memories are made and dreams are fulfilled.

As early evening turns to dusk the lighting makes fishing difficult. It is time to make the final climb into the boat and head for camp.

The Evening

While you enjoy a fine dinner and great conversation highlighting the day's adventures, an evening star show is being staged under clear desert skies.
